List of 550 Free Audio Books and 550 Free eBooks Includes Carroll Titles

Another of our resourceful mimsy minions has pointed us to the Open Culture educational resource web site, where they offer one page with links to 550 free audio books, both classic and contemporary, and another page with links to 550 free eBooks. Both lists include versions of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland–and intriguingly, the audio books list also includes The Game of Logic!

Wonderland Pop-up Restaurant in London on April 19-20 2014

Thanks to the mimsy minion who reported this little item. If you happen to be in the London area on April 19th or 20th of this year (2014, in case you’ve lost track), there will be a Wonderland-themed pop-up restaurant experience in the East London area known as Shoreditch. It will be hosted by HotHot Magazine, and the press materials promise both theatricality and fine dining, plus appearances from the Mad Hatter and Queen of Hearts. Saturday 4/19 is already sold out according to the HotHot web site, but tickets are still available for Sunday, 4/20.

Bath Tarts and Sugar Scrubs With a Wonderland Theme

A mimsy minion who enjoys luxurious baths (between Snark hunts, no doubt) passed along this blog post about a company called The Bathing Garden, which periodically makes batches of bath treats with a Wonderland theme. The blog post notes that the Wonderland products are currently out of stock, but returning again in April. So, if you enjoy taking long, relaxing baths, you might want to check out this post and keep an eye out when the products are back in stock.

Lunch Lady Graphic Novel for Kids References Alice Books

Here’s another report from one of our mimsy minions, this time about a 2009 children’s book called Lunch Lady and the League of Librarians by Jarrett Krosoczka (Lunch Lady #2 in the series), with fun Carrollian references:

” The plot revolves around an evil librarian and her minions vs. the superhero Lunch Lady and some good kids. The bad guys get their power from opening books and having their characters jump out in some sort of ethereal form to promulgate mayhem. Of course, their big weapon was Alice in Wonderland, from whose pages the Cheshire Cat, Caterpillar, Dodo, and Walrus emerged.”

New Martin Cruz Smith Thriller “Tatiana” References Alice Books

One of our mimsiest minions reports that the latest Martin Cruz Smith (author of Gorky Park and more) thriller Tatiana includes various Carrollian references:

“Russian detective Arkady Renko owns a bookshelf full of children’s literature, including AAIW and fairy tales. In the book, a Russian teenager taunts a homeless boy (who hustles a living playing chess) by quoting Jabberwocky (as in “Beware the Jabberwock,” etc.) and Renko invokes the white rabbit and the rabbit hole a couple of times.”

New Teresa Lima Design Alice Tea Set From Portugal

Attention shoppers–and especially tea set lovers! One of our mimsy minions has just alerted us to this elegant new porcelain tea set from Vista Alegre of Portugal. Illustrator (and now tea set decorator!) Teresa Lima won the National Illustration Prize for her Alice no País das Maravilhas (Livraria Civilização Editora, 1998).

For those of you who must have every Alice tea pot out there–you know what to do. And this set also includes a nifty Cheshire Cat cake plate, among other treats.

Wonderland Discussion on March 20th at Napa Bookmine

One of our California-based mimsy minions reports that the newly opened Napa bookstore Napa Bookmine is discussing Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland this month as part of their book club. The event will be this Thursday March 20th at 6:30pm (local time). The store’s site states that they have copies of the book available (in case you don’t already have your own!).
