These are links to pages that are related to Carroll (mostly Alice) in the popular culture. Alice has been used to promote sales of most anything and
to prove a wide variety of beliefs. Alice references have been a part of our everyday experiences for some time now. What's a good
example of this? The political pin on the left sort of says it all. I don't know if Lewis Carroll would be
amused, amazed, or abashed. I received an e-mail from someone who was bemoaning the fact that Marilyn Manson was producing some
Alice/Carroll related films. I tried to explain that this was not a bad thing, because all interpretations of Alice bring more
attention to it and expand the audience and sure enough I later received an e-mail from someone who was looking at a Marily Manson
article on the web that brought her to the Lewis Carroll Homepage. After perusing the page she had a greater appreciation of Lewis
Carroll, proving the old adage, "there is no such thing as bad publicity".
Regardless, these uses of Alice keep Carroll's work in the public arena generation after generation.
I think it is clear that Alice is an icon of the popular culture and the number of links on the web certainly don't dispute that.
I would have made this page more disorganized, if only I could. That's what I said on the original pop culture page, but it became much too true, so I have reorganized and split the page into several pages. This unfortunately causes yet another level of indirection (something only Lewis Carroll himself would have appreciated). This is the downside of being a pop icon - too much data.
Links on these pages are even more ephemeral than most and disappear more often than a Cheshire Cat. If you find a dead link please notify me. I
am in the midst of testing these links, but time is finite (at least mine is). Testing links has a similar effect as working with mercury.
It makes one quite mad.
