As you’ve probably guessed by now, we’re huge fans of this ballet. We’ve posted on it numerous times, and there is going to be a live stream of it this December (see this post for details). BUT, if you live in New York City and act quickly you can see it live Sept 9-14, 2014 at the Lincoln Center. Don’t be late!
As we mentioned back in April, the brilliant Alice ballet by Christopher Wheeldon will be streamed to movie theaters around the world on December 16. American theater locations are now available here. I urge you to see this if you can.
From our good friends at the Cassady Collection at USC (hosts of our Fall Meeting 2013) comes this entry to their annual Wonderland Award. Quite stunning. You can see the entire collection of videos uploaded by the Wonderland Awards on their YouTube channel here.
This is a new one on me, but who knows? A troupe called Bellydance Evolution is adapting Alice “through world fusion and Middle Eastern dance.” Sounds intriguing. August 1, 2014 in Los Angeles. Visit the Ford Theatre site for details.
For those of you who have not been able to see Christopher Wheeldon’s most excellent Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland ballet, now you may get the chance. In December the Royal Ballet will be live streaming the ballet to 283 locations. So far most seem to be in the UK, but it may expand to other locations. Check out this page for more details.
Will you, won’t you, will you, won’t you, won’t you join the dance?
London’s Royal Ballet will remount their acclaimed production of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland during the 2014 holiday season. And in a clever cross-marketing move, the Ballet has also invited popular hip hop dance company ZooNation to present their own “hip” (and “hop,” presumably) version of the tale, The Mad Hatter’s T Party, in their smaller theatre downstairs at the same time. Twice the Carrollian fun for theatre and dance (and Alice) fans!

One of our mimsy minions reports that BalletMet in Columbus, Ohio, will be remounting their 2006 production of Alice in Wonderland, choreographed by current Artistic Director Gerard Charles. The show runs from February 7-15, 2014.

According to Broadway World online, NY Theatre Ballet will offer two encore performances of their extremely popular family ballet, The Alice in Wonderland Follies. The piece retells Carroll’s classic tale within the framework of a 1915 Vaudeville performance. This clever ballet has proven to be a consistent hit with critics and audiences alike. If you haven’t already seen it, NY Theatre Ballet is giving you another two chances in 2014: January 25th and January 26th in Manhattan.

Thanks to Lambert Liu for responding to my plea for blog items from all you Mimsy Minions! He found a flyer for a ballet performance at his local Huntington, Long Island, NY bookstore:
“Long Island Ballet Theatre presents an original ballet adventure choreographed by former NYC Ballet dancer & world acclaimed by choreographer Christopher Fleming.
Follow Alice down the rabbit hole as she meets the weird & wonderful characters of “Wonderland” – tea with the Mad Hatter, treacherous croquet with the Queen of Hearts and a White Rabbit that leads her all the way!”
The ballet will be performed on June 1st. For more information, click here.
Keep those Carrollian items coming, Minions! Our need, like your curiosity, is inexhaustible.
